NEW World 48 hour record
Jo Zakrzewski has set a new World 48 Hour Record at the Taipei 48-Hour event, with a final distance of 411.458Km/255.668 Miles.
She achieved the total by running 654 times around a 0.6282 km lap of Huabo Freshman Park park in the Taiwanese capital.

The 47-Year old GP from Durham, currently based in Australia, is only the second woman to break the 400Km./248.5 miles barrier.

The second female in the race and fourth overall was the Polish runner Patrycya Bereznowska with 373.178 km.
Bereznowska, former world 24-hour champion and Spartathlon winner, was the previous world record holder. She recorded 403.320 km, on 15th February 2022, in Pabience, Poland. She also had the only other 400k plus distance of 401.00 km.
The previous British woman’s record was 366.512 Km/227.739 Miles by Hilary Walker. That distance was run over 35 years ago on 6/7th November 1988, in Blackpool. Walker was the outright winner of that event.
The previous overall British record was set by Richard Brown in Surgeres, France on 9/10 May 1991, when he ran 401.207 km/ 249.298 Miles.
The new 48 hour world record is another Landmark Performance.
It is another landmark performance for Zakrzewski to add to her many achievements over the last 13 years.
She now holds British records at both 24 and 48 hours.
Her 24-hour best was set at the European 24-Hour championships in Verona in 2022 and is 247.984 km/154.090 Miles. I spoke to Jo before the Verona Championships. You can read that HERE
Zakrzewski has been a regular in British ultra teams teams since making her GB debut at 100km in 2011. As well as several individual and team medals at Major ultra championships, she has a highest placing of 4th at Comrades.
She also completed for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games Marathon in Glasgow in 2014
New National records as well as a New world 48 hour record.
The event also saw new national records set for other countries.
Australian Allicia Heron broke her personal best and set a new national record with 361.160 kilometres.
Romanian Fili Pov Iulian broke through his personal best and set a new national record with 400.514 kilometres.
Bartosz Fudali of Poland broke his national record with 397.619 kilometres.
Huang Xiaochun from Taiwan broke her national record with 357 kilometres.
