WORLD RECORD for 2,000 MILES at the Sri Chinmoy 3,100 mile race.
The records continue to fall at the Sri Chinmoy 3,100 mile race in New York.
Runners are heading towards the close of day 32 in this 52 day odyssey.
Taiwanese Ultrarunner Tsai Wen-Ya, on day 30, Friday, set a new Women’s record for 2,000 miles (3218.688km)
Competing at the Sri Chinmoy 3100 mile race in Queens New York, the 53 year old recorded a time of 29 days 12 hours, 25minutes, and 21seconds.
This beat the previous mark of 31 days, 05 hours, 54 minutes and 13 seconds which was set by Kaneenika Janakova in 2016 at the same event, by over a day!
Wen-ya has already bettered the previous marks at 2,500 km and 3,000km. All three times, subject to ratification, will be Taiwanese, Asian area and World best performance.
The experienced multi day runner is competing in the Sri Chinmoy 3100 mile race for the first time.
Wen-Ya is currently averaging around 67 miles a day. If she can maintain this pace, she will in all likelihood surpass the current women’s records, or best performances as the longer distances are known, at, 4000 Km and 5000 Km, along with 3,000 Miles and the race distance of 3,100 Miles.
She is currently lying in second place overall.
MENS RACE LEADER
Race leader Andrea Marcato from Italy became the first runner through the 2,000 mile barrier on Day 28. He recorded 27 days+11 Hours, 45 Minutes and 44 seconds to break his own existing Italian record.if confirmed it will be the 6th fastest time ever run for 2,000
Third placed Lo Wei-Ming from Taiwan became the Third runner to reach 2,000 mile late last night on day 31.
The women’s race record for the 3100 mile distance is currently held by Janakova with 48 days,14hours 24minutes 10seconds.Wen-Ya is currently on course to break this. The mens record is held by Asprihanal Aalto from Finland with 40 Days 09 Hours 06 Minutes, and 41seconds set in 2015.
RACE DETAILS
The race started on Wednesday 30th August and is organised by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, who have been organising ultra races around the world for over 40 years. It has taken place annually since 1997 with a time limit of 52 days. Runners circle a certified 0.5484-mile loop in the suburb of Queens, New York. They need to complete an average, of around 60 miles a day to beat the time limit
It attracts some of the worlds best long multi-day runners. Some are returning competitors while others are veterans of shorter 6 and 10 day races all keen to accept the challenge of the longest certified road race in the world.
